Senior Program Scholarships

Volunteer Appreciation
a. Funds to purchase food and invitations for the Senior Activity Center's annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in April of each year,and an early December thank you breakfast.
b. Funds to pay for volunteer meals at senior center Fund raising events (winter brunch, summer tea, and spaghetti night)

Emergency Preparedness Supplies and Equipment
Miscellaneous supplies for low income seniors for emergency preparedness such as flashlights, fans, water and snacks.

$1,500.00

Dental Screening Program
Funds to pay for dental screening for low income seniors.
Three visits during the 2010 fiscal year. Approximately 10 seniors per visit.

Senior Shuttle and Volunteer Driver Program
Funds to be used for annual CPR/first aid trainingand defensive driving/passenger safety classes for 13 Des Moines drivers.

Senior Softball Program
Supplies and field use fees for the senior coed softball team as needed.
(Des Moines is only city charging field rental fees to this league)

Elder Watch Program
Funds to help cover the costs of marketing the program, training volunteers, etc. Most of their budget is with SKFire District

Senior Cultural Arts Program
One free art class through the Chihuly Seniors Making Art Foundation.

ESL and Spanish Classes
English as a second language classes, two session for 20 students.

Specialized Training Opportunities
Specialized training opportunities for senior center programs and Services. (ex: falls prevention training, fitness training, etc.) for Staff or volunteers.
